Scientology wins that contest hands down. It costs big money to be told you dont have the souls of dead aliens inside you or whatever other bullshit.

JWs versus Scientology
by millie210 ini have been discussing scientology with a friend who is reading dianetics by l. ron hubbard.. both groups are considered cults by many.. both have a policy of shunning members who leave.. so in your opinion, what are the similarities you find between them?.
what are the differences?.
is one group "worse"?.

I was literally trembling with nerves and fighting off all the guilt and fear of a born ins cult indoctrination.
I didnt like all i saw here, some came over as bitter and twisted (probably because they are) others were mentally ill (voice hearers. jesus wannabes, look at me i'm a prophet types) some seemed OTT and unbelievable because that is what it was (six screens of stupidity)... but despite all that, this site gave me access to information way ahead of my kingdumb hall, and then beyond that it gave me access to the information I needed, that i was being lied to, that I was in a mental prison under mind control, that I didnt know how to think as I had never really learned, that my whole life has been shaped by the cult of my birth and that my life was not my own.
I decided to double check everything and make sure. I came and went as a lurker for a few years, still sucking it up and trying to make a go of it in da troof, but eventually I knuckled down and did the research.

Just ask simple questions and make street witnesses move along
by OnTheWayOut inyou don't have to know much to talk to jw's and show them they don't want to really discuss the matters.they consider a discussion on the matter they are pushing to be "confrontational.".

Cant say i'm impressed with having a camera phone shoved in your face and be expected to "perform" on demand. If he wanted to interview them he could have filmed himself asking if it was ok to film them and respected their wishes, he could then have dropped it down to voice recording option again with their consent if they had said no to video.
No they didnt do very well did they, but not many 18 - 25 year olds could in their shoes, I'd have done a better job at their age, but the camera isnt going to help with recall or thinking on your feet unless you are used to having your life filmed on a regular basis.

As said already wikipedia is great for things that dont have emotive value or an agenda, anything else is taken with a degree of scepticism. -

WTF is the "very lively" supposed to mean? I never attended an assembly that could be described as very lively except the time there was a bomb threat and the stadium was evacuated during my baptism talk. -

by prologos intalking to a cherished "in" friend, i mentioned:.
"how can you go door to door and represent these outlandish doctrines that make you different from the householders, .
overlapping generations, abstaining from the eucharist, submission to leaders even in the face of unreasonable demands, failed, false prophecies?

- The Eucharist /ˈjuːkərɪst/ (also called Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper, and other names) is a rite considered by most Christian churches to be a sacrament. According to some New Testament books, it was instituted by Jesus Christ during his Last Supper.

The Plurality of God in Old Testament
by Clambake ini am not going to claim to be any kind of bible expert or a good writer or anything like that but do you ever notice how the wts has completely whitewashed this idea or anything relating to this..
from the beginning of the bible in the beginning god said let us make man in our own image , to the term elohim which literally means gods , to the angel of the lord in the old testament which is identified to being with god and god himself.
it is just kind of interesting when you read the book of john in the new testament and you start to read things like the word was with god and the word was god or no one has seen the father only the son it kind of makes sense without really fully understanding it.

3rd Gen DF'd finally writing
by AFreeBeliever ini've been reading many of the postings on this forum for a couplefew years, finally joined today.
i think reading cappytan, and others like that, compelled me to share, it seems i might have a bit of a different outcome than many i have read, perhaps it will be hopeful/helpful to someone.. i was a born-in, 3rd gen jw, my entire family (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and most all of my childhood friends) were in.
some dropped by the wayside as the years went on, but many stayed in, and if they didn't, they still acted/talked as if they believed it was "the truth" and it was their weaknesses/failings that made them stop attending.

Proof for the IMMORTAL soul triggered my doubt on JW teachings!
by abiather inonce i was talking to myself: religions are all about sacrifices (and rituals), viewing god as a means to get forgiveness of sins and material benefits, and bible is no exception.
yet the foundation of the universe is on the never-failing principle of cause and consequences, something which god will never violate.
forgiveness of sins is a violation of principle of cause and consequencessomething that bible itself ironically upholds in galatians 6:7 and in many other verses!

That's a nice bunch of unattributed quotes there (your usual MO). They are also out of context.
Do you know what a logical fallacy is? You seem to use them like magic markers to construct a reality to your liking instead of the one that is right there in front of you. You come here to preach and not to learn, which cult is it you joined on leaving the JWs?
